About Us
Museum Graphics was founded in 1952 under the name of "5 Associates" by Ansel Adams, Virginia Best Adams, and Phillip Knight. Its original purpose was to print color postcards and souvenir items for sale in Yosemite National Park. Over the years the line was expanded to include photographic books, notecards, postcards, Christmas cards, and matted reproductions.
The present name Museum Graphics was chosen to give a more descriptive title to what we do, which is to produce high quality lithographic reproductions primarily for the fine arts museum trade. We also have a huge market among bookstores, art galleries, paper stores, frame shops, and nature-oriented stores.
Anne Adams Helms took over the management of the company in 1966, after the death of her husband, Charles Mayhew, who had been managing the business on a part-time basis. Since that time, business has improved greatly. With an increase in the public awareness of photography as a fine art and of the works of Ansel Adams in particular, the company expects to see further growth in the future. We now publish the works of many other photographers, although the Ansel Adams line is still the backbone of the company.
In 1988 Alison Mayhew Jaques, the daughter of Chuck Mayhew and Anne Adams (Mayhew) Helms, took over the management of the company when Anne retired.
